In my previous post I discussed the well known calorie in-calorie out theory.
It's pretty simple, so interrogating minds should know that being the theory too simple real life is harder.
Our body is easily fooled but at the same time if we fool it too much the body will fool around with us.
One important piece of notion is that the body should not be deprived of calorie intake amounts for too long and these should not be extreme, especially if exercising.
The reason is the so-called starving-mode.
When without food for a long time our body will think that something in the world must've happened.
The body doesn't care if the reason for the lack of fuel is a planned diet, the attack of mutating spiders or a nuclear war. From the body perspective it's exactly the same. This means that if the calorie intake is too low then metabolism level will be lowered causing several side effects including a plateau.
Now, if you think about it we would do the same that our body does. Suppose you have 100 bottles of water stocked up in your secret bunker. Suppose that for any reason the water supply decreases so much that you can get only one new bottle of water a day. What would you do? Obviously you would save as much water as you can, trying to limit yourself to one bottle a day or so. You would try to keep the stock as close as possible to 100 bottles, no matter how sore your throat is. Then, one day you get five bottles. What would you do? Drink 2 and stock 3, causing an increase in your stockpile.
Being still scared, you would go back in starving mode trying to preserve as many water bottles as possible.
Then another day you peak outside of your bunker and see that the Zombie apocalypse is over, the nuclear radiations are gone and, more importantly, bottled water is back in the stores. Obviously at this point you would start drinking 5 bottles a day, causing a decrease in the stockpiles. As long as the used water bottles are not entirely replaced by more bottles (drink 5 buy 6) then your stockpile will gradually diminish until it reaches the correct balance.
The body works in the same manner.
Be careful, find your calorie intake and as always talk to a doctor.
